Presented by the Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur Centenary Celebration Committee, this catalogue compiled by S. Kalidas commemorates the 100th birth anniversary of the legendary classical vocalist, Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur. The catalogue is a tribute enriched with a cover photo by Raghu Rai and a collection of writings by Mansur’s contemporaries and friends, including poignant insights from Gangubai Hangal, B.R. Deodhar, P.L. Deshpande, Raghu Rai and others who intimately shared anecdotes and reflections on his life and music. Archival photographs capturing pivotal moments from Mansur’s illustrious career are interspersed throughout, accompanied by heartfelt tributes and contributions from eminent figures such as Pandit Ravi Shankar and Bhimsen Joshi. The catalogue published in 2010 follows a successful exhibition held at the India Habitat Centre, featuring Mansur’s life and work, supported by Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra and CMAC in design and technical assistance.
Integral to the catalogue’s creation is its design by Parthiv Shah, Director of the Centre for Media and Alternative Communication (CMAC). Beyond his role in design, Shah’s personal interactions with Mansur allowed him to capture intimate moments through photography, adding a visual narrative that resonates deeply with Mansur’s musical legacy.
The Committee was generously supported by various organizations and individuals, including Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde, Union Minister for Power, the Union Ministry for Culture, and entities such as the National Hydro Power Corporation, Rural Electrification Corporation, Power Grid Corporation, Power Finance Corporation, Sangeet Natak Akademi, India Habitat Centre, Centre for Media and Alternative Communication, J Swaminathan Foundation, and others.
